About APS

Founded in 1916, Aiken Preparatory School, a 3K-12th grade independent coeducational community, provides a nurturing and challenging learning environment for students seeking a globally competitive college preparatory education. Through both traditional and innovative programs, as well as exceptional faculty, we equip our students for the challenges of college and beyond.

Our curriculum emphasizes the mastery of academic and critical thinking skills. In addition, an accepting and cooperative atmosphere fosters inquiry and curiosity, instills a love for learning, and helps develop a keen sense of self-worth. The Aiken Preparatory School experience contributes to the social, physical and moral development of each student, reinforcing the values of integrity, respect, generosity, sportsmanship, and responsibility.

Aiken Preparatory School is more than a school; it is a home where children strive to realize the best of their capabilities. Aiken Preparatory School gives students confidence in doing, encouragement in trying, praise in succeeding, discipline when needed, but love and friendship always.

Core Values

We celebrate students as individuals and believe that children learn best in small classes so that teachers can meet the needs of each child.

We understand the significance of excellent teachers, coaches, and staff members who become adult friends, mentors, and motivators of students.

We accept the partnership between parent, student, and Aiken Prep and work to communicate regularly and often.

We value the pursuit of academic excellence and inculcate a love of learning to last a lifetime by making students go beyond the “test answer” to see that they can use the information or skill in a new way.

We expect students to learn how and why as well as accumulate knowledge.

We promote participation and set up our daily schedule and yearly calendar to allow students to be scholars, athletes, thespians, and school leaders at the same time. No one stands on the sidelines at Aiken Prep. If you are on a team or in a play, you participate, regardless of the score.

We stand for familiar values: integrity, respect, generosity, sportsmanship, and responsibility.

We educate students to take their places as citizens and to become leaders of their communities and the schools they have attended.
