Spanish I
Textbook & Workbook: En Español 1a (McDougal-Little, 2000); Spanish/English Dictionary
Structural elements of basic vocabulary are presented. Students learn by oral and visual stimulation and association. The study of the culture and customs of Hispanic countries is presented through lectures, readings, and research. At the end of the academic year, the students should be capable of identifying objects used in daily life and must have acquired basic skills of: Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Basic Grammar Structures, Basic Writing, and Basic Oral Skills.
Students are assessed through class participation, class work, homework, quizzes, tests and projects.
Spanish II

Spanish 2 provides proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students are exposed to the following grammar structures: imperfect tense, commands, reflexives, conditionals and subjunctive. They are more immersed in the study of cultural differences among Hispanic countries. Students become more fluent in the use of the language skills in general, both written and orally. Through the use of readings and videos they increase their vocabulary and their comprehension of daily life situations.
Assessment includes: homework, class participation, quizzes, presentation of projects, essays, tests, and semester exams.
Spanish III
En Español 3 textbook & workbook (McDougal-Littell, 2000) -Spanish dictionary
Spanish 3 develops proficiency in all the language skills. Students acquire a stronger command of the language while studying and using more advanced grammar structures with linguistic emphasis on compound sentences, and more complex verbal tenses using the subjunctive. They learn the importance of the use of connectors, prepositions, verbal phrases and idiomatic expressions. The class is taught mainly in Spanish.
Assessment includes: homework, class participation, quizzes, presentation of projects, essays, tests, and semester exams.
Spanish IV
Spanish 4 works on the review of all the linguistic structures acquired in the previous courses. It reinforces the four language learning skills through the study of Hispanic literature, videos and current events. The class is completely taught in the target language.

AP Spanish
This is a course for those students who want to continue their studies of Spanish. It is intended to help students expand their interpersonal communication skills and prepare them for the AP Spanish test. Students achieve mastery of the language increasing and refining their written and oral performance. Students review specific grammar structures when needed. They read, converse, and analyze Hispanic Literature of different genres. Students view movies produced in the target language and expand their conversation skills by critiquing and discussing them.
Assessment includes: homework, class participation, quizzes, presentation of projects, essays, tests, and semester exams.
Conversation & Culture
This Conversation course is offered to those students who want to continue their studies of Spanish. It is intended to help students expand their interpersonal communication skills, achieve mastery of the language and increase and refine their oral performance. Students review specific grammar structures if needed. They read, converse, and analyze Hispanic Literature of different genres. Students read articles of topics of interest, view movies produced in the target language and expand their conversation skills by critiquing and discussing them.
Assessment includes: homework, class participation, oral presentations, and oral tests.

French I
Text: Moi, je parle français – Anne Marie Connelly – Niveau 1
In French 1, the students acquire a basic understanding of French daily life situations through speaking, listening, reading and writing. The students are introduced to the geography of France.
The students cover the following: genders; articles; possessive adjectives; personal pronouns; verbs (avoir, être, faire, aller) and first group verbs; affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences with direct and indirect objects; idiomatic expressions with avoir.
The students are graded on each chapter, on a daily and weekly basis through homeworks, quizzes and exams. Participation, neatness and accuracy is also be graded.
French II
Text: Moi, je parle français – Anne-Marie Connelly – Niveau 2
In French II, the students acquire a greater understanding of daily life situations in French. The students develop an ability to engage in a dialogue. The students are presented excerpts of French newspaper and magazines. The students are introduced to Paris, ville-lumière.
The students cover the following: personal pronouns (direct and indirect objects); passé composé; verbs of the first, second and third groups; pronominal verbs; demonstrative adjectives and pronouns; verbs (pouvoir, vouloir et devoir); subordinate clauses (with croire, dire, penser, etc.); idiomatic expressions with avoir.
The students are graded on each chapter, on a daily and weekly basis through homeworks, quizzes and exams. Participation, neatness and accuracy is also be graded.
French III
Text: Moi, je parle françai – Anne-Marie Connelly – Niveau 3
In French III, the students are introduced to more challenging life situations in French The students are expected to read and converse in French. The students are introduced to French literature and culture. (La France, ses départements et grandes régions).
The students cover the following: third group verbs; subordinate clauses; futur, imparfait, passé composé, subjonctive. The students also learn to write and speak using complex sentences.
The students are graded on each chapter, on a daily and weekly basis through homeworks, quizzes and exams. Participation, neatness and accuracy is also be graded.
French IV – Honors
Text: Moi, je parle français – Anne-Marie Connelly – Niveau 4 et Nveau 5
The students reinforce their knowledge of French in reading, writing, speaking and listening. They also reinforce their understanding of grammar rules and exceptions. The student is introduced to French literature. The students are asked to write essays in French and prepare oral presentations. They explore La Francophonie.
The student covers more advanced complex sentences with two subordinate clauses; plus-que-parfait, conditionnel présent et passé and subjonctif. The students are graded on each chapter, on a daily and weekly basis through homeworks, quizzes and exams, essays and oral presentations. Participation, neatness and accuracy is also graded.
