Spanish

Mission Statement

The Spanish program as a foreign language in Aiken Preparatory School prepares the students to communicate effectively in the second language. In the courses the students get proficiency in the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

The courses begin in 4k and continue through 12th grade. The curricula allow the students to get familiar and confident with the use of the language accurately. The program contemplates the study of the cultural facts which gives the students a worldwide view of the different Hispanic countries and their communities.

Additionally, the students acquire a solid foundation to continue their studies at College connecting themselves better to the globalized world and the new language.

Goals

The goals are accomplished by exposing the students to the different communicative skills through a variety of materials. The students will increase and expand the vocabulary through audio-visual and reading comprehension materials. They will review and practice grammar structures while performing their written and verbal skills.

Additionally, the students will improve their speaking performance by presenting projects in Spanish. They also expand their cultural background by studying different Spanish-speaking countries or regions. With the use of videos the students broaden their knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic communities and their way of living. Through the reading material and the internet connections the students have access to all kinds of authentic information and literary works.

At the end of the program the students who want to take the Advance Placement test take the last course that provides the preparation with an instruction equivalent to the third year of college.
