Music

4K students are introduced to a variety of musical experiences, with a focus on singing, rhythm, movement and performance. Students discover their talents by playing percussion instruments and color-coded hand bells. There are performances for Grandparents’ Day, Christmas and Lower School graduation.

Computer Technology

4K and 5K students learn basic computer terminology and skills, respect for the work of their fellow students and care of computers. Educational software including the Jumpstart and Reader Rabbit series will be used throughout the year to compliment the classroom curriculum. The children also use Jumpstart Spanish to reinforce the Spanish vocabulary we are learning in class.

Spanish

In pre-school, Spanish is incorporated during daily calendar time. Basic
Spanish vocabulary is practiced orally through songs, finger play, books, videos
and games for twenty minutes after snack. Children learn greetings, numbers,
the alphabet, colors, parts of the body, clothing, animals, transportation,
classroom terms, family and question words. Oral repetition helps children
learn to speak simple phrases as they build a foundation for our ongoing Spanish
curriculum. Most of all, learning Spanish is FUN!

Writing

We use Handwriting Without Tears which is an informal handwriting readiness program that suits a preschooler's developmental needs and abilities. Wood pieces, a slate with chalk, a "stamp and see" screen, playdough and even songs are used each week as we study a new letter and number.

Each students uses special "flip" crayons to color in a workbook that includes capital letters and #1-10. HWT develops eight key skills: memory, orientation, placement, size, start, sequence, control and spacing.

Art

In 4-K, we are learning the basic elements of art: line, shape, color, value, texture, form and space. We are also learning to draw certain objects in a step-by-step process.
