Mission: Founded in 1916, Aiken Preparatory School is a dynamic, engaged community of learners serving students in 3K through 12th grade. We provide a globally competitive college preparatory education within a culture of personal responsibility, integrity and respect for others. Working in partnership with families, we challenge and support our students to discover their strengths and realize their fullest potential as humanitarians, scholars, athletes and artists. Accreditation and Membership Aiken Preparatory School is dually accredited by The Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).Memberships include the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), Palmetto Association of Independent Schools (PAIS), Southern Association of College and Schools (SACS) and the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA).
Description Founded in 1916 by Mrs. Thomas Hitchcock, Aiken Preparatory School enrolls 150 college-bound students in preschool through grade 12. Aiken Preparatory School is committed to providing a challenging yet nurturing learning environment for a diverse student population. Through both innovative and traditional programs, as well as the careful selection of our faculty, we equip our students for the challenges of college studies and life-long learning.
Faculty Aiken Prep has a faculty and staff of 43 full-time and part-time men and women. Forty-seven percent of the professional staff hold advanced degrees.
Facilities Aiken Prep is located on 12 acres in historic downtown Aiken. The main building holds administrative offices and grades 1-12, as well as the library and technology labs. It also contains 3 science labs and a small auditorium. There are separate cottages for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, art, and band. Aiken Prep also has a gymnasium, playing fields, and tennis courts.
Admission Aiken Prep enrolls college-bound boys and girls who are bright and talented, possess good character, and are willing to engage their own intellectual curiosity in a rigorous academic environment. Admission requires all candidates to have good academic records, recommendations, an on-campus interview, and admission testing for entrance evaluation.
Financial Aid Financial aid is based on need, which is determined by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid of Princeton, NJ. Applications are available on-line at www.nais.org.
Weighted Courses Advanced Placement courses, which are shown on the transcript as AP, can be taken in the junior year or senior year. College Preparatory (CP) and Honors (H) courses are available in grades 8 through12. Listed are the courses offered to Aiken Prep students. Select courses are offered on a rotating basis:

Twenty-four credits (as listed below) are required for the graduating class of 2010.

Annual offerings are selected by the school based upon the academic requirements of currently enrolled students.
