Description Founded in 1916 by Mrs. Thomas Hitchcock, Aiken Preparatory School enrolls 165 college-bound students
in preschool through grade 12. Aiken Preparatory School is committed to providing a challenging
yet nurturing learning environment for a diverse student population. Through
both innovative and traditional programs, as well as the careful selection of
our faculty, we equip our students for the challenges of college studies and
life-long learning.
Head of School Deborah Taussig-Boehner came to Aiken Preparatory School in April of 2002. She attended Syracuse University where she earned a B.S. in Secondary
Education and an M.A. in Consumer Studies. Before assuming the Head of School
title at Aiken Preparatory School, she was an Assistant Dean at the University
of South Carolina-Aiken.
Faculty Aiken Prep has a faculty and staff of 41 full-time and part-time
men and women. Fifty-five percent of the
teaching faculty hold advanced degrees. Throughout the
school we maintain a ratio of 8 students to 1 faculty member. (8:1)
Facilities Aiken Prep is located on 9.5 acres in historic downtown
Aiken. The main building holds administrative offices and grades 1-12, as well
as the library and technology labs. It also contains 3 science labs and a small
auditorium used primarily for the lower school. There are separate cottages for
pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, art, and band. Aiken Prep also has a gymnasium,
playing fields, and tennis courts.
Admission Aiken Prep enrolls college-bound boys and girls who are
bright and talented, possess good character, and are willing to engage their
own intellectual curiosity in a rigorous academic environment. Admission
requires all candidates to have good academic records, recommendations, an
on-campus interview, and admission testing for entrance evaluation.
Financial Aid Financial aid is based on need, which
is determined by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid of Princeton,
